QuickBooks Bill Pay costs $0 a month on its base plan, which is included with any QuickBooks Online subscription, $15 a month for Bill Pay Premium and $45 a month for Bill Pay Elite. Standard ACH payments are listed as free on all three plans. A paper check costs $1.50, faster ACH costs $10, and an instant payment costs 1% of the amount with a $100 cap. Elite is included with QuickBooks Online Advanced at no extra fee.
That makes QuickBooks Bill Pay one of the cheapest ways for a US small business already on QuickBooks Online to pay vendors. The real cost sits elsewhere: the QuickBooks Online plan underneath it ($38 to $340 a month), the Elite upgrade if you need approvals, and the staff time spent getting each bill into QuickBooks correctly before anyone can pay it. Every price below comes from quickbooks.intuit.com/bill-pay and quickbooks.intuit.com/pricing, checked on October 15, 2026.

How much does QuickBooks Bill Pay cost?
QuickBooks Bill Pay costs nothing extra on the base plan, $15 a month on Premium and $45 a month on Elite, on top of a QuickBooks Online subscription that runs $38 (Simple Start), $85 (Essentials), $140 (Plus) or $340 (Advanced) a month at regular price. Per payment, you pay $1.50 per check, $10 per faster ACH and nothing for a standard ACH.
Here is what that adds up to for three common US setups, using regular prices, not the three-month promotions.
| Business | Setup | Monthly total |
|---|---|---|
| Owner-run shop, 30 vendor bills a month, 5 paid by check | Simple Start $38 + Bill Pay $0 + 5 checks at $1.50 | $45.50 |
| Contractor paying 20 subcontractors who need 1099s | Essentials $85 + Premium $15 + standard ACH | $100 |
| Three-person finance team that needs bill approvals, 150 bills a month, 10 checks | Plus $140 + Elite $45 + 10 checks at $1.50 | $200 |
For the third team, the alternative is moving to QuickBooks Online Advanced at $340, which includes Elite. That only pays off if you also want Advanced's other features or more than five users, because Plus plus Elite costs $185 before check fees.
Is QuickBooks Bill Pay free?
The base QuickBooks Bill Pay plan is free to use with any QuickBooks Online subscription, and Intuit lists standard ACH payments as free on all Bill Pay plans. It is not free overall: you still pay for QuickBooks Online itself, $1.50 for every check, $10 for faster ACH, and $15 or $45 a month if you need 1099 e-filing or approvals.
One inconsistency is worth knowing about. Intuit's main QuickBooks Online pricing page still carries a line about "$0.50/standard ACH transaction over monthly allotments", while the Bill Pay page lists standard ACH as free on every plan. Older versions of Bill Pay did include a monthly allotment of free ACH payments with $0.50 charged after it. Check the pricing details in your own account before you budget on zero.
Does QuickBooks charge a fee for bill pay?
Yes, QuickBooks charges per-payment fees for some bill pay methods: $1.50 for each check, $10 for each faster ACH and 1% for an instant payment, capped at $100. Standard ACH is listed as free. There is no monthly fee on the base plan; Premium ($15) and Elite ($45) carry a monthly subscription.
Is QuickBooks Bill Pay Elite worth it?
Bill Pay Elite is worth $45 a month if more than one person touches a bill before it is paid and you want approval rules, payment release approval and role-based permissions inside QuickBooks. If one owner enters and pays everything, the base plan or Premium covers it. On QuickBooks Online Advanced, Elite is already included, so there is nothing to decide.
Compare that with a dedicated bill pay tool. BILL charges $49, $65 or $89 per user a month, and its automatic two-way QuickBooks Online sync starts on the $65 Team plan, so three users on Team cost $195 a month against $45 for Elite. Melio's paid plans start at $25 a month. Our full Bill.com vs QuickBooks Bill Pay comparison walks through the fees side by side, and the Melio pricing breakdown covers its ACH allowances.
What QuickBooks Bill Pay does not price in
Paying a bill is the cheap part. Getting a bill into QuickBooks with the right vendor, invoice number, due date, amounts and account coding is where AP hours go. Every Bill Pay plan includes AI bill creation and a bills inbox, and for short, clean vendor invoices that may be all you need.
It gets harder when invoices run several pages, carry 30 or 40 line items that have to be split across expense accounts, arrive as phone photos or scanned batches, or need to be checked in a spreadsheet before anything posts. That is the job PayablesAgent does. It reads each invoice to the line item, lets you review the fields, then exports to QuickBooks Online, Excel or CSV. You can test it on a real bill at the top of this page. If bills are the bottleneck, the step by step guide to importing bills into QuickBooks Online shows the full workflow.
| Job | QuickBooks Bill Pay | PayablesAgent |
|---|---|---|
| Pay vendors by ACH or check | Yes | No, it hands bills to your payment tool |
| Read invoice header fields | Yes, AI bill creation | Yes |
| Line-item extraction you can review and edit | Test on your own bills | Yes, every line |
| Export to Excel and CSV for review or audit | Not a Bill Pay feature | Yes |
| Batch upload of scanned or multi-page PDFs | Bills inbox | Yes |
| Price | $0, $15 or $45 a month plus QuickBooks Online | Starter $49 a month (2,500 pages, 1 seat), Plus $149 a month (10,000 pages, 3 seats, QuickBooks Online export) |
The two work together. A common setup is PayablesAgent for capture and coding, then QuickBooks Bill Pay on the base plan for the actual payment. Once bills post cleanly, month-end is quicker too, and you can turn the QuickBooks export into a P&L and balance sheet without rebuilding it by hand.
How much does QuickBooks charge for ACH payments?
QuickBooks Bill Pay lists standard ACH vendor payments as free on its base, Premium and Elite plans, with delivery in 3 to 5 business days. Faster ACH, which usually lands the next business day, costs $10 per payment. This is separate from QuickBooks Payments, the product for collecting money from customers, which has its own ACH rates.
Which plan should you pick?
- Base Bill Pay if one person enters and pays bills and you do not file 1099s in QuickBooks.
- Premium at $15 if you pay contractors and want unlimited 1099 e-filing from the same place you paid them.
- Elite at $45 if you need approval rules and separate roles for whoever enters, approves and releases payments.
- QuickBooks Online Advanced only if you need more than five users or Advanced's reporting anyway, since Elite then comes included.
Whichever plan you choose, the per-bill cost that does not show on Intuit's page is data entry. If your team is keying line items by hand, try PayablesAgent on a stack of real invoices, or compare the PayablesAgent plans to see what capture costs at your monthly page volume. For QuickBooks-specific capture, the invoice OCR for QuickBooks page covers field mapping and export.
