QuickBooks Bill Pay is cheaper than Bill.com for almost every US small business already on QuickBooks Online. Its Basic tier costs $0, Premium is $15 a month and Elite is $45 a month, and standard ACH payments are free on all three. BILL charges $49, $65 or $89 per user per month, plus $0.59 per ACH payment and $1.99 per check. BILL earns that premium when you need multi-step approvals across several people, international payments, or an accounting system other than QuickBooks.
Prices below come from quickbooks.intuit.com/bill-pay and bill.com/pricing, both checked October 7, 2026. Below you will find both price lists side by side, what a real month costs at two team sizes, where each one wins, and the part neither tool does well: getting invoice line items into your books without typing them.
Bill.com vs QuickBooks Bill Pay pricing at a glance
| QuickBooks Bill Pay | BILL (Bill.com) | |
|---|---|---|
| Plans | Basic $0, Premium $15 a month, Elite $45 a month (Elite included with QuickBooks Advanced) | Essentials $49, Team $65, Corporate $89 per user per month; Enterprise by quote |
| How it is priced | Flat per company, on top of your QuickBooks Online subscription | Per user |
| Standard ACH | Free on every tier | $0.59 per payment |
| Faster ACH | $10 | $11.99 |
| Paper check | $1.50 | $1.99 |
| Instant or expedited | Instant payment 1% of the amount, $100 maximum, $10 minimum transaction | Expedited check $14.99 to $24.99 |
| International | Not listed on the Bill Pay page | USD international wire $19.99 |
| Approvals | Bill approval automation and payment release approval on Elite only | Built around multi-step approval routing; automatic 2 and 3 way PO matching on Enterprise |
| Accounting sync | Native to QuickBooks Online | QuickBooks, Xero and others; two-way sync starts on Team |
The structural difference is the one that decides most comparisons. QuickBooks prices Bill Pay per company and makes standard ACH free. BILL prices per user and charges per payment. The more people who touch bills and the more vendors you pay, the wider the gap gets.
How much is QuickBooks Bill Pay?
QuickBooks Bill Pay costs $0 a month on Basic, $15 a month on Premium and $45 a month on Elite, on top of your QuickBooks Online subscription. Standard ACH payments are free and unlimited on all three tiers. Faster ACH is $10 per payment, a mailed check is $1.50, and an instant payment costs 1% of the amount with a $10 minimum and $100 maximum. Our QuickBooks Bill Pay pricing breakdown adds the QuickBooks Online plan underneath each tier and worked monthly totals.
Elite is the only tier with bill approval automation and payment release approval, and it is included at no extra charge with QuickBooks Advanced. Intuit was running 50% off the first three months of Premium and Elite when we checked. Because standard ACH is free, most QuickBooks Bill Pay fees come from checks and faster payments, not the plan itself.
Is QuickBooks Bill Pay cheaper than Bill.com?
Yes, for a business already paying for QuickBooks Online. Here is the same month run through both price lists. We use Team for BILL in the larger example because that is the first plan with two-way QuickBooks sync, which is the reason most QuickBooks users buy BILL in the first place.
Two people, 40 ACH payments and 10 checks a month
- QuickBooks Bill Pay Basic: $0 plan, $0 for ACH, 10 checks at $1.50 is $15. Total $15 a month. If you want an approval step before payment, Elite brings it to $60.
- BILL Essentials: 2 users at $49 is $98, 40 ACH at $0.59 is $23.60, 10 checks at $1.99 is $19.90. Total $141.50 a month.
Four people, 150 ACH payments and 30 checks a month
- QuickBooks Bill Pay Elite: $45 plan, $0 for ACH, 30 checks at $1.50 is $45. Total $90 a month.
- BILL Team: 4 users at $65 is $260, 150 ACH at $0.59 is $88.50, 30 checks at $1.99 is $59.70. Total $408.20 a month, or about $4,900 a year.
Neither example includes your QuickBooks Online subscription, which you pay either way if QuickBooks is your ledger. The full BILL fee list, including receiving fees and card payments, is in our Bill.com pricing and fees breakdown.
When Bill.com is worth the extra cost
BILL is not overpriced for what it does. It is priced for a different buyer. It is the better choice when:
- Several people approve bills. Department heads, project managers and the controller each sign off in a defined order. QuickBooks keeps bill approval automation for Elite, and BILL was built around routing.
- You pay vendors outside the US. BILL sends USD international wires for $19.99. The QuickBooks Bill Pay page does not list international payments.
- Your ledger is not QuickBooks. QuickBooks Bill Pay only exists inside QuickBooks Online. If you are on Xero, NetSuite or Sage Intacct, it is not an option at all.
- You also want receivables and spend in one vendor. BILL sells AR, and its Spend and Expense product lists at $0.
- You match against purchase orders. Automatic 2 and 3 way matching is on BILL Enterprise. QuickBooks Bill Pay does not advertise PO matching.
If none of those apply, the per-user price is buying features you will not use. That is the most common reason people search for Bill.com competitors and alternatives, and QuickBooks Bill Pay is usually first on that list for QuickBooks users.
When QuickBooks Bill Pay is the better choice
QuickBooks Bill Pay wins when the company is on QuickBooks Online, pays mostly US vendors by ACH, and one or two people handle payables. Free standard ACH alone covers most of the difference: at 150 ACH payments a month, BILL's per-payment fee is $88.50 before a single seat is counted. Premium at $15 adds unlimited 1099 e-filing plus roles and permissions, which is often all a growing team needs. Elite at $45 adds bill approval automation and payment release approval. If you are still choosing a whole stack, our comparison of AP automation for QuickBooks adds Ramp, Melio, Tipalti and capture tools with monthly totals, and bills from PDF invoices can go in through the QuickBooks Online bill import.
The trade-off is flexibility. You get one approval model, US payments, and a tool that stops existing if you ever leave QuickBooks. For a 5 to 50 person US business that is rarely a problem.
Does QuickBooks Bill Pay read invoices automatically?
Partly. Every QuickBooks Bill Pay tier includes AI-powered bill creation and a dedicated bills inbox, so a PDF emailed to that inbox becomes a draft bill with vendor, date and amount. BILL does the same with its own inbox and capture. Both are built to create a bill you then pay, and both focus on the fields a payment needs.
Where teams run into limits is the detail below the total. A distributor's invoice with 60 part numbers, a contractor's bill split across jobs, or a food supplier's weekly statement needs each line captured to the right item or account. Neither bill pay tool is sold on line-level extraction, and neither is built for batches of hundreds of historical invoices during a cleanup or an audit.
The cheapest setup for most QuickBooks businesses
For a QuickBooks Online company that pays mostly US vendors, the lowest total cost usually looks like this:
- Pay vendors with QuickBooks Bill Pay. Free standard ACH, $1.50 checks, and Elite only if you need approvals.
- Capture invoice data with a dedicated extraction tool. PayablesAgent reads vendor, invoice number, dates, tax, totals and every line item from PDFs and scans, and exports to QuickBooks Online on the Plus plan ($149 a month for 10,000 pages and 3 seats) or to Excel and CSV on Starter ($49 a month for 2,500 pages). You can test it with the upload tool at the top of this page. See invoice OCR for QuickBooks for the export flow.
- Reconcile against the bank. If some accounts do not have a live bank feed, you can convert a bank statement to QuickBooks format and import it, so every paid bill matches a cleared transaction.
Using the four-person example above, Bill Pay Elite plus PayablesAgent Plus costs $239 a month against $408.20 for BILL Team, and you get line items that BILL's capture does not promise. For two people on Starter, the pair costs $64 against $141.50.
Can you use Bill.com and QuickBooks Bill Pay together?
You can, but there is rarely a reason to. Both create bills in QuickBooks and both pay them, so running both means two places to approve and a real risk of paying the same invoice twice. Pick one payment tool. If BILL is there for approvals and QuickBooks Bill Pay for cheap ACH, check whether Elite's approval automation covers your approval chain before paying for both.
Switching from Bill.com to QuickBooks Bill Pay
- Export your vendor list and open bills from BILL and confirm every vendor exists in QuickBooks with the same name.
- Collect vendor bank details again. BILL's vendor network does not travel with you, so vendors paid electronically need to be set up for ACH in QuickBooks.
- Pay open bills in BILL until the cutover date, then turn off BILL's sync so bills are not created twice.
- Set up Bill Pay Elite approvals if you relied on BILL's routing, and point your bills inbox address to vendors.
- Cancel BILL seats at the end of the billing period.
If you are weighing other options before you switch, our Melio competitors comparison covers the other popular bill pay tool for small businesses, and the Yooz pricing and alternative page covers volume-priced AP platforms with unlimited users. For the full lineup with Ramp included, see accounts payable software for small business compared by monthly cost.
Which one should you choose?
Choose QuickBooks Bill Pay if you are on QuickBooks Online, pay US vendors, and one to a few people run payables. It will cost a fraction of BILL. Choose BILL if you need layered approvals across many people, pay international vendors, or keep your books outside QuickBooks. In both cases, if your team still types invoice line items by hand, the payment tool is not the fix. Upload a few of your longest invoices to the tool at the top of this page and see what comes back.
Put this to work on your own documents
