Tipalti pricing starts at $99 a month for the Accounts Payable plan and $249 a month for Mass Payments. Both include unlimited users with no per-user or per-approver fees. On top of the subscription, Tipalti charges transaction pricing per invoice and per payment, foreign exchange fees on cross-currency payments, and extra for the Procurement, Expenses and Treasury modules. Tipalti does not publish those per-transaction rates; they are set in your quote.
The subscription figures come from Tipalti's own pricing page, and the fee mechanics come from Tipalti's help center article on account billing, both checked on September 24, 2026. Below we lay out what the $99 covers, every kind of fee that lands on the monthly invoice, a break-even calculation against BILL you can run with your own quote, and the cases where a capture-only tool is the cheaper answer.
Tipalti plans and starting prices
| Plan | Starting price | Users | What is included | Charged on top |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Accounts Payable | From $99 a month | Unlimited | Self-service supplier portal, core AP automation, standard implementation | Per-invoice and per-payment transaction pricing |
| Mass Payments | From $249 a month | Unlimited | Payee portal, core payout automation, standard implementation | Per-payment transaction pricing |
| Mid-market and enterprise | Custom quote | Unlimited | Multi-entity setups, complex ERP environments | Modules, professional services, transactions |
Tipalti names four drivers that move the price above the starting figure: the number of payments you process, the number of legal entities, the modules you enable, and the payment methods and currencies you pay in. Procurement, Expenses and Treasury are sold as separate modules. Standard implementation is included for common workflows, while complex environments can require paid professional services.
The Accounts Payable plan is the one most US finance teams are quoted. Mass Payments is for companies paying large numbers of contractors, affiliates, creators or marketplace sellers, and it is priced higher because the payout volume is the product.
What are Tipalti fees?
Tipalti fees are the platform subscription (from $99 a month for AP, $249 for Mass Payments) plus usage charges billed in the Tipalti Hub: a transaction fee per payment that you can split with the payee, a rejection fee when a bank returns a payment, a foreign exchange fee on currency mismatches, and pass-through provider fees. The per-invoice and per-payment rates are set in your quote.
Tipalti's help center describes the fees in the Account billing screen of the Tipalti Hub. There are four kinds, and each can matter more than the subscription once volume grows.
| Fee | How Tipalti charges it | Who pays |
|---|---|---|
| Transaction fee | Per transaction, per payment method. Can be a fixed fee, a percentage, or both combined | Split between payer and payee, as configured |
| Rejection fee | When a payment provider rejects a payment | Payer |
| Foreign exchange fee | When the submitted currency differs from the provider account currency or the currency the payee chose | Depends on which currency mismatches |
| Additional provider fees | Extra fees some payment providers charge | As passed through |
The payer and payee split is the part most buyers miss. Tipalti lets you push some or all of a transaction fee onto the supplier. Its own example: if the Tipalti fee for a local bank transfer is $6.00 and the payee fee is set at $5.00, the payee absorbs $5.00 and you pay $1.00. If both are $5.00, the supplier pays all of it. Payee fees are deducted from the amount you send, so a vendor expecting $1,000 receives less unless you gross up the payment.
That is a real lever for a company paying thousands of contractors, and a real risk with domestic suppliers who will notice short payments and call AP about them. Decide your policy before signing, because it changes your effective cost per payment.
Funding is the other operational detail. You pre-fund your Tipalti account by wire or ACH push, and Tipalti pays out from that balance. ACH funding is USD only and slower, so Tipalti recommends sending it one to three business days before the payment date. Tipalti supports 28 funding currencies for companies that hold balances abroad.
How much does Tipalti cost for a real US team?
Because the per-invoice and per-payment rates are only in your quote, the honest way to price Tipalti is as a formula:
Monthly cost = platform fee + (invoices x per-invoice rate) + (payments x payer share of the payment fee) + FX fees + modules
The useful question is where that formula lands against the alternatives you already know the price of. Take a US company with three people in AP, 200 vendor invoices a month and 150 ACH payments. On BILL's Team plan, that is 3 users at $65, which is $195, plus 150 ACH payments at $0.59, which is $88.50, for about $283.50 a month. On Tipalti, the $99 platform fee leaves $184.50 of room. Spread over 200 invoices and 150 payments, Tipalti comes out cheaper only if its combined transaction charges average under roughly $0.53 per item. Run the same sum with your own quote before you believe either sales deck.
Now change one thing: twelve department heads approve bills instead of three people. BILL's Team plan becomes 12 users at $65, or $780 a month before a single payment. Tipalti's cost does not move, because it has no per-user or per-approver fee. This is where Tipalti genuinely wins, and it is why growing companies with many approvers move to it. We run three more team shapes, including international contractors and NetSuite, in Tipalti vs Bill.com. The full BILL fee schedule is in our Bill.com pricing breakdown, and Melio's cheaper per-payment model is covered in the Melio pricing guide.
Is Tipalti expensive?
Tipalti is expensive when you pay for capabilities you never use. The $99 buys access to payouts in more than 200 countries, supplier self-onboarding with tax form collection, multi-currency funding and multi-entity support. A company paying 400 suppliers across a dozen countries uses all of that and would struggle to replace it with bank wires. A company paying 60 domestic vendors by ACH uses almost none of it, and still pays a per-invoice charge on every bill. That second company is often weighing Ramp's $0 Bill Pay plan instead; our Ramp vs Tipalti pricing comparison runs the numbers for three company sizes.
Three questions tell you which one you are:
- How many of last quarter's payments went to a vendor outside the US or in a currency other than USD?
- How many people approve bills, and would a per-user tool charge you for each of them?
- Was the painful part of AP the payment run, or getting invoice data into the ledger in the first place?
If the answers are "almost none", "two or three" and "the data entry", Tipalti's price is mostly paying for payout machinery. That is the point where buyers start looking at a Tipalti alternative built around invoice capture instead.
When a capture-only tool costs less than Tipalti
Many teams that ask for a Tipalti quote are not trying to pay the world. They are trying to stop typing vendor names, invoice numbers, dates, tax and line items into QuickBooks, NetSuite or Sage. That job does not need a payment platform.
PayablesAgent reads invoices, bills and receipts and returns every header field and line item as Excel, CSV or QuickBooks Online data, with JSON through the API. Pricing is flat and published: Starter is $49 a month, or $24 a month billed yearly, with 2,500 Base pages and 500 Pro pages. Plus is $149 a month with 10,000 Base pages, up to three seats and QuickBooks Online export. There is no per-invoice fee, so a busy month costs the same as a quiet one until you outgrow the plan's pages. You can upload an invoice in the tool at the top of this page and check the output before paying anything.
What it does not do matters just as much. PayablesAgent does not pay suppliers, route approvals or collect W-9 and W-8 forms. Payments stay where they already work: your bank's ACH, BILL, or your ERP's payment run. If you pay vendors straight from the bank and the bank's export is a CSV that QuickBooks will not accept, you can convert the CSV bank file to QBO and keep reconciliation in QuickBooks. For line-level data specifically, see invoice line item extraction, and for NetSuite shops, invoice processing for NetSuite.

How to negotiate a Tipalti quote
- Get every rate in writing. Ask for the per-invoice rate, the per-payment rate for each method you use (ACH, check, wire, local bank transfer, card), the rejection fee and the FX markup by currency.
- Model a bad month. Run the formula above on your highest-volume month, not your average, so year-end or seasonal peaks do not surprise you.
- Settle the payee fee policy. Decide whether suppliers absorb any fee, and confirm how short payments are shown on remittances.
- Price only the modules you will switch on in year one. Procurement, Expenses and Treasury can be added later.
- Ask what counts as a complex implementation. Multi-entity ERP setups are where paid professional services appear.
Tipalti pricing FAQ
How much does Tipalti cost per month?
Tipalti's Accounts Payable plan starts at $99 a month and Mass Payments starts at $249 a month. Your real monthly cost adds per-invoice and per-payment transaction fees, FX fees on cross-currency payments, and any modules such as Procurement, Expenses or Treasury. Tipalti sets those rates in a custom quote rather than publishing them.
Does Tipalti charge transaction fees?
Yes. Tipalti charges a transaction fee per payment, per payment method, which can be a fixed amount, a percentage or both. The AP plan also carries per-invoice pricing. Rejection fees apply when a provider rejects a payment, and FX fees apply when the payment currency differs from the account or payee currency.
Who pays Tipalti fees, the payer or the payee?
Both can. Tipalti lets the paying company set a payee fee, which is deducted from the amount sent. If the Tipalti fee is $6.00 and the payee fee is $5.00, the supplier absorbs $5.00 and the payer covers $1.00. If you set no payee fee, the paying company covers the full transaction fee.
Does Tipalti charge per user?
No. Tipalti's pricing page states it has no per-user or per-approver fees, and both plans include unlimited users. That makes it cheaper than per-user tools such as BILL once many people approve bills, even though the platform fee and transaction pricing start higher.
Is there a cheaper alternative to Tipalti?
For invoice capture, yes. PayablesAgent costs $49 a month, or $24 billed yearly, with no per-invoice fee, and exports invoice data to Excel, CSV and QuickBooks Online. It does not pay suppliers. For domestic bill pay with published prices, BILL and Melio both list their plans and fees publicly.
