AutoEntry alternative

AutoEntry Alternative with AutoEntry Pricing and Competitors Compared

AutoEntry prices by credits, and an invoice with line items costs two of them. Once your team needs every line on a few hundred invoices a month, the bill climbs fast. PayablesAgent reads invoices, bills and receipts with line items included on every plan, for a flat $49 a month, or $24 a month billed yearly.

AutoEntry prices on this page come from AutoEntry's own pricing page, in US dollars.

The short answer

AutoEntry is good value at low volume: $13 a month buys 50 credits, users are unlimited and there is no contract. The cost problem shows up with line items, which take 2 credits per invoice, and with bank statements at 3 credits per page. A team extracting line items from 500 invoices a month needs 1,000 credits, which means the $298 Diamond plan. If that sounds like your month, a flat-rate extraction tool is the cheaper AutoEntry alternative. If you process a few dozen documents and publish straight to Sage, stay on AutoEntry.

How AutoEntry pricing works

AutoEntry sells six monthly credit bundles, and every plan includes unlimited users, unlimited cloud storage and unlimited clients. Unused credits roll over for up to 90 days, you can pause or downgrade any time, and the trial includes 25 credits.

Plan Credits a month Price (USD) Invoices with line items
Bronze50$1325
Silver100$2450
Gold200$46100
Platinum500$103250
Diamond1,500$298750
Sapphire2,500$4691,250

Credits are spent by document type. A purchase or sales invoice costs 1 credit, or 2 credits with line items. An expense receipt costs 1 credit. A supplier statement costs 2. Bank and credit card statements cost 3 credits per page, so a 6-page monthly statement uses 18 credits, more than a third of the Bronze plan. Above 2,500 credits AutoEntry quotes a custom package.

The per-credit price falls from $0.26 on Bronze to about $0.19 on Sapphire, so an invoice with line items costs roughly $0.38 to $0.52 depending on the plan. That is fair for small volumes. It adds up when line items are the norm rather than the exception, which is true for anyone doing job costing, PO matching or vendor price tracking.

What AutoEntry costs at three real volumes

Single-page invoices, all with line items, using AutoEntry's credit costs and published plans.

80 invoices a month

Roughly a tie

160 credits fits Gold at $46. Our Starter plan is $49 monthly or $24 billed yearly. Close enough that workflow should decide, not price.

400 invoices a month

$298 vs $49

800 credits is past Platinum's 500, so the next bundle up is Diamond at $298. The same 400 pages sit well inside our $49 Starter allowance.

1,500 invoices a month

Custom quote vs $149

3,000 credits is over Sapphire's 2,500, so AutoEntry quotes a custom package. Our Plus plan covers 10,000 Base pages for $149 with QuickBooks Online export.

When AutoEntry is the better buy

AutoEntry does several things well. If these describe you, keep it.

You publish straight into Sage

AutoEntry is a Sage product, and publishing to Sage accounting is its home ground. If Sage is the ledger, that connection is hard to beat.

Low, uneven volume

Credits roll over for 90 days and the plan can be paused, which suits a small business with a few dozen bills a month and a quiet summer.

Many people touch the books

Unlimited users on every plan means a practice can add staff and client logins without paying per seat.

You mostly need header totals

At 1 credit per invoice without line items, AutoEntry is cheap for posting vendor, date and total. The math only turns when every line is needed.

AutoEntry competitors, grouped by the job you need done

Pick the group first. Comparing a capture tool with a bill pay platform wastes a demo.

Bookkeeping capture

Dext

The closest like-for-like rival, strong for practices on Xero. Line items are a paid add-on. See our Dext alternative comparison.

Totals only, lowest price

Hubdoc

$12 a month with unlimited usage, but no line items. See the Hubdoc alternative page.

Legacy name

Receipt Bank

Receipt Bank is Dext's former name, so older comparisons that list both are listing one product. See Receipt Bank alternative.

AP with payments

BILL and Melio

If you want capture, approvals and vendor payments together. See the Bill.com alternative and Melio alternative pages.

Build your own

Nanonets and cloud APIs

For teams with developers who want to design the workflow. See the Nanonets alternative page.

Invoice data, flat price

PayablesAgent

Vendor, invoice number, dates, tax, totals and every line item as Excel, CSV, JSON or QuickBooks Online data. Line items never cost extra. Full roundup: best OCR software for invoice processing.

How to test the switch in a week

  1. 1

Count last month's credits by type

Split them into invoices, invoices with line items and statement pages. That tells you what you are really paying for.

  2. 2

Upload 20 of the same invoices above

Include the longest line-item invoice and a scanned one. Check vendor, invoice number, dates, tax, total and lines against the originals.

  3. 3

Run both for one month end

AutoEntry has no contract and can be paused, so there is no penalty for overlapping. Export to QuickBooks Online or a spreadsheet and see which takes less correcting. See invoice OCR for QuickBooks.

  4. 4

Keep AutoEntry only for what it does best

Some practices keep a small AutoEntry plan for Sage clients and move line-item heavy clients to a flat plan.

Above roughly 100 invoices with line items a month, yes. AutoEntry needs Platinum at $103 for 250 such invoices and Diamond at $298 for 750. PayablesAgent's $49 plan covers 2,500 Base pages with line items included, and $149 covers 10,000 with QuickBooks Online export.
