Melio Competitors and Melio Alternatives, Prices Compared for Invoice Capture
Melio is a bill pay tool first. It is cheap for paying vendors and its bill capture is built to feed that payment. If what you actually need is invoice data, with line items, exported to QuickBooks Online, Excel, CSV or JSON for hundreds or thousands of bills a month, PayablesAgent reads them for a flat $49 a month, or $24 a month billed yearly.
Melio details on this page come from Melio's own pricing page, checked September 21, 2026.

The short answer
The right Melio alternative depends on what Melio stopped doing for you. If you outgrew its approval routing or need PO matching, look at BILL, Stampli or Tipalti. If you want cards and bill pay from one vendor, look at Ramp. If Melio still pays your vendors fine but your team is stuck keying invoice details into the ledger or a spreadsheet, you do not need a new payment platform at all. You need an extraction tool that turns each bill into clean data, and you can keep paying through Melio or your bank.
Melio competitors at a glance
Melio's main competitors fall into two groups. Payment platforms that also route approvals and move money (BILL, Ramp, Tipalti, Stampli, AvidXchange) and document capture tools that only read bills into your books (Dext, Hubdoc, PayablesAgent). Every price below comes from the vendor's own pricing page. Where a vendor publishes no price, the table says so.
| Competitor | What it replaces in Melio | Published starting price | Best fit |
|---|---|---|---|
| BILL | Bill pay, approvals, PO matching | $49, $65 or $89 per user per month | Teams that outgrew Melio's approval rules |
| Ramp | Bill pay plus corporate cards | Free plan $0 per user; Plus $15 per user per month plus a platform fee | Companies that want cards and bills in one place |
| Tipalti | Full AP and global payouts | From $99 per month plus per-invoice and per-payment fees | Vendors in many countries and currencies |
| Routable | Mass payouts and AP | Growth $1,250 per month; invoice OCR is a Scale add-on, quoted | High-volume and international payouts |
| Stampli | Invoice approvals on an ERP | No published price, quote only | Multi-entity approval chains |
| AvidXchange | AP automation and supplier payments | No published price, quote after demo | Mid-market real estate and construction |
| Dext | Bill capture only | $25.21 per month billed annually for 250 documents; line items extra | Bookkeepers on QuickBooks or Xero |
| Hubdoc | Bill capture only | $12 per month standalone, included in Xero plans | Xero users who only need header totals |
| PayablesAgent | Bill capture with line items | Starter $49 per month, Plus $149 per month for up to 3 seats | Teams that keep paying through Melio or the bank and want the data entry gone |

How Melio pricing works
Melio sells four self-serve plans. Go is $0 and limited to one user with 5 free ACH payments a month. Core is $25 a month with 20 free ACH payments. Boost is $55 a month with 50. Unlimited is $80 a month with unlimited free ACH payments and unlimited users. Billed annually, Core drops to $20, Boost to $44 and Unlimited to $64 a month. A fifth tier, Platinum, is invite-only for businesses sending more than $300,000 a month in card payments.
Seats cost extra on the middle plans: $10 per additional user a month on Core and Boost, or $8 billed annually. A three-person AP team on Boost pays $75 a month before a single payment fee.
Payment fees sit on top. Once the free ACH allotment is used, each ACH payment costs $0.50. A paper check is $1.50, a fast check $20, an overnight check $50, a wire $10, and same-day ACH or instant transfer 1% capped at $75. Paying a vendor by credit or debit card costs 2.9%. Global payments by ACH in USD carry a $20 flat fee.
For a small business paying 20 US vendors a month, that is a very good deal, and we would not tell that business to leave. The math changes when capture is the bottleneck: QuickBooks Desktop sync needs Boost, NetSuite needs Unlimited, auto-capture of line items starts at Core, and Melio's capture exists to create a bill you pay through Melio. It is not built to hand you a spreadsheet of 2,000 invoices for a cost analysis, an audit or a client's books.

When Melio is the better buy
Melio is honest value for a specific kind of business. If this describes you, stay put.
You pay a few dozen vendors a month
With 20 free ACH payments on Core for $25, a small business paying rent, suppliers and contractors pays almost nothing per transaction. No extraction tool will beat that for simple bill pay.
You want to pay by card when vendors only take checks
Paying a check-only vendor with a credit card for 2.9% buys float and card rewards. That is a payments feature, and Melio does it well.
One person runs AP
A single owner or office manager avoids the per-user fee entirely and gets bill capture, a bills inbox and QuickBooks Online sync from Core.
You also need to send invoices
Melio includes AR and invoicing in every plan. If collections outgrow that, a dedicated accounts receivable automation tool chases overdue invoices by email and SMS without you writing the reminders.
Melio competitors, grouped by the job you need done
Most lists of Melio alternatives mix bill pay apps, AP suites and payout rails. Sort by job first and the shortlist gets short.
Domestic AP platform
BILL
The usual step up from Melio: deeper approval policies, PO matching on Corporate and a large vendor network, priced per user. Plans and fees are in our Bill.com competitors comparison and Bill.com pricing breakdown.
Mid-market AP platform
Stampli
Invoice-centric approvals, unlimited entities and strong ERP coverage, sold by quote. See the Stampli alternative breakdown.
Global AP and payouts
Tipalti and Wise
Tipalti for paying suppliers in many countries with tax form collection; Wise for cheap cross-border transfers without AP features. See the Tipalti alternative comparison.
Spend platform
Ramp
Bill pay bundled with corporate cards and expense management. Worth a look if the card program is the bigger decision.
Bill pay app
QuickBooks Bill Pay and Forwardly
Direct rivals on simple vendor payments. Compare them against Melio on fees for your own mix of ACH, check and card payments.
Who gets more from invoice capture than from Melio
Bookkeepers with many clients
One Melio account per client means one bill pay setup per client. Capturing every client's bills in one account with page-based pricing is simpler. See invoice OCR for accounting practices.
Teams that need line items in a spreadsheet
Job costing, price-change tracking and vendor spend analysis need line-level data you can sort and pivot. See invoice line item extraction.
Backlogs and cleanups
A year of unposted bills before a tax deadline or an audit is a batch job, not a payment job. See bulk invoice processing software.
Companies that pay from the bank or ERP
If payments already run through your bank's ACH or NetSuite, a second payment app adds nothing. Get the data in and keep paying where you pay. See invoice processing for NetSuite.
QuickBooks users posting bills directly
Extract the bill, review it and push it to QuickBooks Online without routing the payment through a third party. See invoice OCR for QuickBooks.
Developers building their own AP flow
When invoice fields should arrive as JSON in your own system, an extraction API is the product. See the invoice and receipt OCR API.
How to decide in an afternoon
-
1
Add up last month's Melio bill
Plan fee, extra users, ACH payments past the free allotment, checks and card fees. Most teams have never seen the total in one place.
-
2
Time the data entry, not the payments
Paying is usually a few clicks. Correcting captured bills, adding line items and fixing vendor names is where the hours go. If that is the pain, it is a capture problem.
-
3
Run 20 real invoices through the tool above
Include a scanned bill, a long line-item invoice and the vendor whose layout always breaks. Check vendor, invoice number, dates, tax, total and lines against the originals.
-
4
Keep what works
Many teams keep Melio on Go or Core for payments and move capture elsewhere. Once the bills are posted, closing the loop against the bank feed is the last step, and an AI account reconciliation tool can match those payments to the statement for you.
Questions buyers ask about Melio
What is a good alternative to Melio?
It depends on why you are leaving. For heavier AP workflows with PO matching, compare BILL, Stampli and Tipalti. For cards plus bill pay, compare Ramp. For international payouts, compare Tipalti and Wise. If the problem is getting invoice data into QuickBooks, Xero or a spreadsheet with line items, an extraction tool like PayablesAgent is the closer fit.
How much does Melio cost per month?
Melio lists Go at $0, Core at $25, Boost at $55 and Unlimited at $80 a month, or $20, $44 and $64 billed annually. Core and Boost add $10 per extra user. Payment fees apply on top: $0.50 per ACH after the free allotment, $1.50 per check and 2.9% for card payments. The full breakdown is in our Melio pricing guide.
Does Melio charge per user?
On two plans. Go is limited to one user. Core and Boost charge $10 per additional user a month, or $8 billed annually. Unlimited includes unlimited users for $80 a month. For a team of three or more, compare Boost with extra seats against Unlimited before you pick.
Does Melio work with QuickBooks?
Yes, on paid plans. QuickBooks Online and Xero sync start on Core, QuickBooks Desktop sync needs Boost, and NetSuite needs Unlimited. The free Go plan has no accounting sync, so bills captured there have to be entered in your books separately.
Does Melio have OCR?
Yes. Every Melio plan includes AI bill capture and a dedicated bills inbox, and auto-capture of advanced line items starts on Core. The capture is built to create a bill you then pay in Melio. If you need the extracted data itself as a file, an extraction tool is the better match.
Is there a cheaper alternative to Melio?
For simple bill pay, Melio Core is already among the cheapest options. PayablesAgent is not a cheaper payment app. It is the better buy when you need invoice and receipt data exported at volume, with 2,500 Base pages and 500 Pro pages for $49 a month, line items on every plan and no per-user fee.
See your invoices as clean data
Upload a real vendor bill and check the vendor, dates, totals and line items that come back. If capture was the reason you started looking past Melio, you can have it running today at a flat price.
