Rossum Alternative for Mid-Size AP Teams with Rossum Pricing and Competitors Compared
Rossum is an enterprise document AI platform with a price to match: Starter begins at $18,000 a year on a one-year minimum contract. If your team needs invoice data extracted and exported, not a configurable workflow platform with sandboxes and master data matching, PayablesAgent does that job for $49 a month, or $24 a month billed yearly.

The short answer
Choose a Rossum alternative by how much platform you need. If you process documents at enterprise scale, need custom validation logic, SAP or Coupa integration and a sandbox for IT, Rossum is a serious option and its peers are ABBYY, Hyperscience and Tungsten. If you need clean invoice fields and line items in a spreadsheet, an API or QuickBooks Online, a self-serve extraction tool does it without a $18,000 floor or a year-long contract.
How Rossum pricing works
Rossum publishes one number. The Starter plan begins at $18,000 a year and includes unlimited seats, ingestion by email, API and upload, the Rossum Aurora document AI, a validation screen, a 12-month archive and API access. The other three plans, Business, Enterprise and Ultimate, are quote-based.
Each step up adds platform features rather than extraction quality. Business adds custom business logic, master data matching, duplicate detection, an intelligent mailbox, webhooks and integrations with systems such as SAP, Coupa, Workday and Oracle. Enterprise adds single sign-on, a sandbox, document translation and a choice of cloud location. Ultimate adds multi-document transactions, an embeddable UI and a three-year archive.
The contract terms matter as much as the price. The minimum term is one year, and documents above your plan's limit are billed per document at rates that are not published. A 14-day trial lets you test before signing.
Unlimited seats are a genuine strength: a shared service center with 30 AP clerks pays nothing extra for them. The problem for a mid-size US company is the floor. At $18,000 a year, Starter costs $1,500 a month before overage, which is more than many teams spend on their whole AP stack.

When Rossum is the better buy
Rossum is built for a specific kind of organization. If this is you, it belongs on your shortlist.
You run SAP, Coupa or Oracle
Validating invoices against vendor and PO master data inside an enterprise ERP needs the integration and business-logic layer Rossum sells from Business upward.
Dozens of people validate documents
Unlimited seats on every plan make Rossum cheaper per person than seat-capped tools once a large AP team shares the validation queue.
IT needs SSO, a sandbox and data residency
Security reviews at large companies often require single sign-on, a test environment and a chosen cloud region. Rossum Enterprise covers all three.
You process more than invoices
Multi-document transactions such as orders, delivery notes and invoices together are an Ultimate plan feature built for logistics and procurement teams.
Rossum competitors, grouped by buyer
Rossum sits in the intelligent document processing category, which ranges from enterprise platforms to simple monthly tools.

Who gets more from a self-serve plan than from Rossum
QuickBooks and Xero companies
No SAP, no Coupa, no need for an integration layer. Extract the bill and post it. See invoice OCR for QuickBooks and Xero invoice OCR.
NetSuite teams under 10,000 invoices a month
Structured invoice data going into NetSuite, without a year-long platform contract. See invoice processing for NetSuite.
Seasonal or project volume
A year-end backlog or an acquisition cleanup does not justify an annual minimum. See bulk invoice processing software.
Questions buyers ask about Rossum
How much does Rossum cost?
Rossum's pricing page lists Starter from $18,000 a year. Business, Enterprise and Ultimate are quote-based. The minimum contract is one year, and documents beyond the plan limit are billed per document at rates Rossum does not publish. A 14-day trial is available before you sign.
What are the alternatives to Rossum?
Enterprise rivals include ABBYY Vantage, Hyperscience and Tungsten Automation. Developer-focused extraction APIs include Nanonets, Docsumo and Veryfi. For US teams that mainly need invoice data in Excel, CSV, JSON or QuickBooks Online on a monthly plan, PayablesAgent and Dext are the self-serve options.
Does Rossum have a free trial?
Yes. Rossum offers a 14-day free trial. After that, plans run on a minimum one-year contract, starting from $18,000 a year for Starter. Test with your hardest documents during the trial, because the annual commitment follows.
Is there a cheaper alternative to Rossum?
Yes, if you do not need Rossum's workflow engine. PayablesAgent starts at $49 a month, or $24 a month billed yearly, with 2,500 Base pages and 500 Pro pages included, no annual contract and no sales call. You give up custom validation logic, a sandbox and native SAP, Coupa and Oracle connectors.
Test extraction on your own invoices
Upload a real invoice and check the vendor, dates, totals and line items that come back. No contract, no demo call, and you can run it this afternoon.
